The Transportation Assistant serves as Assistant Fleet Manager and coordinates vehicle data submitted by various services within the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center and off-care sites (OCS) for fleet services. Primary responsibilities include assigning vehicles, coordinating fleet activities, planning vehicle use to maximize utilization, budgeting for the fleet, and maintaining consistency in fleet services.

Maintain current knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures, including the Center for Engineering, Occupational Safety and Health (CEOSH), the Federal Management Regulation, state licensing, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Alternate Fuel Vehicle requirements, to support facility compliance.
Report noncompliance or inadequate reporting to higher management, recommend corrective actions, and monitor related documentation for accuracy, timeliness, and effectiveness.
Communicate agency and local policies to employees who use fleet vehicles and equipment, order VA license plates through the CEOSH website, and communicate effectively with personnel throughout the facility and network, as well as government and nongovernment agencies, contractors, vendors, law enforcement agencies, and other stakeholders.
Review the fleet budget, notify the Chief of significant spending changes such as multiple large repairs or bodywork, verify vendor billing for compliance with tax-exempt procedures, and review quarterly spending to keep the Chief informed of control point activity. Serve as a technical advisor to the Administrative Officer and the Chief on fleet system modifications needed to meet the facility's requirements. Perform other duties as assigned.
