The Transportation Assistant position is located in the Supply Chain Management area of the medical center. In this position, you are responsible for overall program effectiveness, including service to user groups, for equipment and material acquisition, quality control, and operation and maintenance. This includes planning, organizing, directing and controling all facets of transportation support services and motor pool operation.
Major duties include but are not limited to: Plans, organizes, directs, and controls all components of the Phoenix VAHCS Fleet Management Program, independently overseeing day-to-day motor pool operations and ensuring the effective use and readiness of vehicles. Evaluates and approves vehicle justifications from various departments; coordinates scheduling and assignment of fleet vehicles for routine and emergency operations to support essential medical center functions.
Collects and analyzes operational data from user groups to develop and administer both scheduled and unscheduled transportation services, ensuring alignment with organizational needs. Collaborates with patient care services to assess special transportation requirements, making recommendations for vehicle modifications (e.g., wheelchair, ambulance) to improve accessibility and patient care delivery.
Directs acquisition, operation, and maintenance of all GSA-leased and agency-owned vehicles by managing contract documents, overseeing service quality, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and local conditions. Administers driver training programs for patient transport, courier services, and other staff, enhancing safety, regulatory compliance, and service reliability across the medical center's transportation networks.
Develops, implements, and audits systems for reimbursable services (such as vehicle washing and repairs) and vehicle recovery, ensuring efficient resources use and cost recovery for fleet operations. Compiles, manages, and submits mandatory fleet management reports to VHA Headquarters utilizing electronic tracking and reporting systems, including Fleet Automotive Statistical Tool, GSA Fleet Drive Thru, and Network Fleet GPS.
