Job Summary

This position is located in the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Office of Laboratory Systems and Response (OLSR), Office of Laboratory Safety (OLS). Key Responsibilities

As a Veterinary Medical Officer, GS-0701-14, you will: Serve as a senior Veterinary Medical Officer providing technical direction and veterinary expertise for U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) animal care and use programs. Lead program activities across CDC laboratory animal campuses. Direct CDC animal care and usie programs across three laboratory animal campuses, ensuring compliance with federal animal welfare laws, policies, and standards.

Develop, coordinate, and implement laboratory animal care and use policies, procedures, and program requirements for intramural and extramural activities. Provide expert veterinary and regulatory guidance on laboratory animal welfare, zoonotic diseases, biosafety, occupational health, and biomedical research. Build partnerships with federal, state, local, international, academic, and private organizations to advance laboratory animal health, welfare, and program objectives.

Design and oversee training for animal users, scientists, and institutional committee members on regulatory compliance and laboratory animal care and use. Review epidemiologic studies, surveillance projects, surveys, and investigations involving zoonotic diseases to assess animal welfare and program effectiveness. Lead team activities by assigning work, monitor progress, coach staff, resolve problems, and coordinate completion of program priorities and deliverables.

Requirements & Education

Foreign Education: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
