This position serves as the Wildlife Refuge Manager, GS-0485-13 for San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge Complex in Fremont, California providing leadership and direction for refuge operations. Responsibilities include overseeing staff, habitat and wildlife management, conservation programs, public use, land acquisition, facilities, budgeting, and regulatory compliance while coordinating with diverse partners to advance conservation goals.
Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: Oversee and administer refuge land, wildlife, and aquatic conservation activities and adapting to changes with land use conditions. Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with other federal, state, and local government entities, native Tribal groups, NGOs and other special interest groups with emphasis on conservation projects.
Supervise a multifaceted team of professional, technical, analytical and administrative support staff, setting a team attitude of adhering to high professional standards and completion of accurate, high-quality work related to compliance within their multifaceted teams. Formulate, develop and implement long-range plans, strategies, and refuge policy associated with all operations, projects, fiscal requirements, personnel and property management, etc.
Communicate with internal and external audiences by conducting formal and informal presentations, leading meetings, providing training, facilitating refuge tours, and representing the refuge at public and partner events to explain refuge management objectives, conservation initiatives, and Service policies.
This position does not allow substituting education for experience. This position has a mandatory education requirement. You must submit a copy of your transcript(s) to support claimed education. Transcripts must include your name, school name, grades, credit hours earned, major(s), grade point average or class ranking, and date the degree was conferred, if applicable. A typed list of courses, grades, semester/quarter hours, GPA, etc. will not be accepted.
Non-submission may result in being rated not qualified for the position. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
Foreign Education: To receive credit for education completed outside the United States, you must show proof that the education has been submitted to a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign educational credentials and such education has been deemed at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs.
