Job Summary

The Office of the General Counsel (OGC) is seeking a Supervisory General Attorney (Assistant General Counsel) in the Administrative Law and Legal Review Group located in Washington, DC. As an Assistant General Counsel, you will provide legal analysis and advice on federal securities laws, administrative procedures, and other laws applicable to the SEC.

Key Responsibilities

The Administrative Law and Legal Review Group in the Office of the General Counsel provides legal analysis and advice on federal securities laws, administrative procedure, and other laws applicable to the SEC. The Group analyzes rulemakings and other recommendations to the Commission prepared by SEC divisions and offices, including the Divisions of Corporation Finance, Investment Management, Trading and Markets, and the Office of the Chief Accountant.

This position will serve as Assistant General Counsel and will focus on matters from the Division of Investment Management. This position reports to the Associate General Counsel for the Divisions of Trading and Markets and Investment Management.

In this role as an Assistant General Counsel, you will be responsible for: Overseeing and directing the work of a team of attorneys responsible for reviewing and analyzing draft Commission and staff actions produced by other Commission divisions and offices, particularly the Division of Investment Management.

Interpreting and applying federal statutes, case law, and administrative law principles to identify legal issues raised by regulatory initiatives reviewed by the Group and assist in developing and assessing potential approaches for their resolution.

Managing workload distribution in a dynamic regulatory environment, working with the Associate General Counsel to anticipate changing priorities and adjust staffing and assignments accordingly to ensure deadlines and quality standards are met. Fostering a close collaborative working relationship with the divisions and offices the Group supports, identifying opportunities for improvements to workflows and communications.

Communicating team views to agency leadership, including the General Counsel and members of the Commission, orally and in writing, with clarity and professionalism. Performing supervisory activities for the team, including the planning, organizing, and supervising of the completion of work assignments and performance management. Carrying out all duties independently with minimal supervision.
