Ideal candidates will have experiences in civil engineering principles and construction practices related to highways, bridges, buildings, and soils, with the ability to evaluate disaster-damaged facilities and determine eligibility for federal assistance. They will be skilled in analyzing complex technical information, developing sound recommendations, interpreting policy, and communicating effectively with stakeholders.
What will I do in this position if hired? In this position, you will review disaster-related construction and repair projects, evaluating requests for federal assistance, and providing technical engineering recommendations on project eligibility.
Typical assignments include: Communicating technical engineering findings, policy interpretations, and project eligibility recommendations clearly and effectively to federal, state, local, and private-sector stakeholders through briefings, written correspondence, and coordination meetings.
Providing responsive customer service to applicants and stakeholders by addressing inquiries, explaining program requirements, resolving technical issues, and coordinating timely support for disaster recovery assistance needs. Representing the agency in meetings, briefings, and coordination efforts with federal, state, local, and private-sector partners to communicate program guidance, address engineering-related issues, and support effective delivery of disaster assistance.
Collaborating with internal teams, field staff, federal partners, state and local officials, and applicants to coordinate project reviews, resolve technical issues, and support consistent delivery of public assistance programs. Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description.
Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
