This vacancy is for a GS-0301-11, Command Center Watchstander located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), United States Coast Guard (USCG), Coast Guard District Northeast, Sector Long Island, Sound (SEC LIS), in New Haven, Connecticut.
You will serve as a Command Center Watchstander and be responsible for maintaining information management, situational awareness, and command and control over all Coast Guard operations in the Sector area of responsibility.. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Overseeing and monitoring the Sectors response to Search and Rescue (SAR) cases in order to minimize loss of life and property at sea.
Developing search action plans while investigating and coordinating ongoing activities and operations within the Area of Responsibility (AOR). Providing command and control over Coast Guard assets in all maritime law enforcement operations within the Sector AOR. Overseeing responses to reported marine casualties (i.e. allusions, collisions, and grounding), ensuring proper notification, response, and documentation procedures are executed within SCC responsibilities.
Analyzing and disseminating a variety of nautical data such as current, tides, weather (including wind and storm alerts, visibility, and water depth). Interacting with federal, state, and local government agencies while coordinating response to SAR, Law Enforcement, PWCS, MER, and other Coast Guard missions. Providing training and upholding qualification standards for members standing watch in the SCC.
Briefing the Sector Commander and other members in key leadership positions regarding status of cases, intended actions, and recommendations.
