This position is located in the Electrical Shop of the Facilities Engineering Service (FES) at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center. The Electrical Shop is responsible for maintaining, operating, and supporting the facility's electrical distribution systems, lighting, and related electrical infrastructure to ensure safe, reliable, and code-compliant power for all areas of the medical center.
Major duties include but are not limited to: Install, modify, maintain, and repair electrical systems including power and lighting circuits, alarm and control systems, panel boards, motors, transformers, switches, distribution panels, and related devices to ensure continuous and safe operations for the health care facility. Plan and lay out work from wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and specifications. Calculate conduit, wire, and load requirements.
Diagnose problems and troubleshoot electrical systems and equipment. Identify and correct electrical deficiencies and hazards using appropriate testing and diagnostic equipment. Perform preventive maintenance, testing, cleaning, inspecting, lubricating, and adjusting electrical systems and components.
Adhere strictly to safety policies and codes, working in compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC), VA regulations, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards. Coordinate and communicate with contractors and other trades as needed to ensure timely completion of electrical tasks associated with construction, renovation, and maintenance projects. Performs other duties as assigned.
