Job Summary

This position is located at the Corporal Michael J. Crescenz VA Medical Center (CMCVAMC) in the Facilities Management Service under the general supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor and/or Electrical Supervisor. The Electrician is a key position in maintaining the safe, uninterrupted power and electrical operations of the facility, which is a very complex, potentially dangerous, and critically needed resource.

Key Responsibilities

As an Electrician, you will be responsible for the maintenance, operation, and the repair of the electrical/power system of the entire Medical Center and associated facilities. Other duties include, but are not limited to: Installs, modifies, repairs, troubleshoots, loads, and tests new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures, controls, and equipment.

Works as a journeyman level electrician to maintain, repair, troubleshoot, and perform preventive maintenance on electrical systems up to 480 volts to include, but not limited to building wiring, electrical panels, breakers, fuses, building lighting systems, campus lighting systems, emergency power systems, electric pumps/motors, elevators, generators, alarm/control systems, electric doors, transfer switches, transformers and any other electrical work normally performed by a Journeyman level Electrician.

Works from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and electrical maintenance and repair manuals to plan and layout the routing, placement, type size, gauge, balance, load continuity, and proper and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, systems, equipment, and controls.

Determines, arranges, places and routes distribution panels, boxes, circuits, fittings, and controls; and determines and installs wiring, conduits, fixtures, transformers, etc., in size, type and arrangement needed for proper and safe operation. Installs and terminates copper core data cable between data ports and punch-down blocks located in telecommunications closets.

Repairs control and power distribution equipment, battery chargers, food service equipment, and building maintenance equipment. Performs duties such as, monitoring service contracts, inspections and to ensure documentation on same as required by The Joint Commission (TJC) and ANSI. Must be thoroughly versed in the National and Local Electrical codes and has knowledge of all safety regulations pertaining to the described duties.

Lays out a complete job, such as determining size of wire, conduit, breakers to be used, equipment and tools required, and quantity of electrical material needed. Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:30am - 4:00pm Position Description Title/PD#: Electrician/01919A Physical Requirements: Makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and inside manholes, and where the parts of the systems worked on are in hard-to-reach places. This requires incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions and under hazardous conditions.

Work frequently involves lifts, carries, and set up tools, equipment, and parts that may exceed 20 pounds and require heavy lifting.
