Job Summary

This position is located in Regional Offices, Region 2, National Preparedness Division, Preparedness Analysis Branch in New York, NY. The ideal candidate for this position will have strong analytical skills managing, coordinating, and implementing Federal emergency planning and preparedness activities including but not limited to: identifying and assessing risk, estimating the level of capabilities needed to address those risks, building or sustaining the required levels.

Key Responsibilities

What will I do in this position if hired? In this position, you will serve as a senior specialist participating in the execution of preparedness program activities within a region of Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

Typical assignments include: Provides advice and assistance to FEMA staff and stakeholders concerning a variety of issues pertaining to preparedness activities which involve complex and far-reaching threats and hazards that require Federal agencies, States and local governments to integrate preparedness efforts in order to build, sustain, and deliver the core capabilities and achieve the desired level of readiness.

Administers key components of the National Preparedness System which provides a consistent and reliable approach that supports decision making, resource allocation, and measure progress toward these outcomes in preparation for a crisis event. Provides officials with relevant information required to plan and implement Federal preparedness activities as related to an extensive range of national emergencies.

Communicates and coordinates with other Federal, State, local, tribal, territorial, nongovernmental organizations, and private sector to ensure an effective and comprehensive plan for a coordinated preparedness to major event occurrences. What else do I need to know? At FEMA, our mission is to help people before, during and after disasters, and every employee at FEMA has a role in emergency management.

Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description.

Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
