The ideal candidate for this position will demonstrate experience in the administration of the National Flood Insurance Program at the local, State, Tribal, or Federal Level; and be able to communicate to stakeholders concerning complex and technical issues; experience conducting research and drafting technical findings.
What will I do in this position if hired? In this position, you will serve as Emergency Management Specialist (Mitigation) within FEMA Region I. You will promote the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), which has a goal to reduce the impact of flooding on private and public structures by providing insurance for property owners.
The NFIP encourages communities to adopt and enforce floodplain management regulations, which mitigates the effects of flooding on new and improved structures and helps communities reduce the socio-economic impact of disasters by promoting the purchase and retention of insurance through the NFIP.
Typical assignments include: Providing compliance oversight, technical assistance, and guidance on National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) requirements,including oversight of the Community Audit process, providing General Technical Assistance to stakeholders, as well as providing oversight on assigned potential NFIP and confirmed violations. Reviewing complex and technical information and communicate findings to internal and external stakeholders.
Crosschecking, analyzing and interpreting data to obtain accurate and relevant information. Supporting conference planning and related activities, including preparing presentations for conferences or meetings with stakeholders, constituency groups, professional organizations, and other external audiences. Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description.
Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions. Promotion Potential: Future promotions will be dependent on your ability to perform the duties at a higher level, the continuing need for an employee assigned to the higher level, and administrative approval.
