This position is located in Region two / Mitigation Division. The ideal candidate for this position must be knowledgeable of specialized FM&I Branch functions including Flood Regulations; CAP-SSSE; CRS; compliance audits; reviewing/interpreting flood maps; and flood insurance.
What will I do in this position if hired? In this position, you will serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) to Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and Puerto Rico-based independent National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) participating communities. Responsible for gauging partner need for training, coaching, and oversight.
Typical assignments include: Providing guidance on Floodplain Management Regulations, and related requirements including FEMA's "Best Available Data" policy; FEMA Map Service Center and other sources of applicable higher standards; Advisory Base Flood Elevations (ABFEs), Preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Maps (Prelims), Effective Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMS), and Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA) mandatory map adoption and mandatory purchase requirements.
Providing guidance and/or training on floodplain development applications and permits, floodplain development review procedures, substantial improvement/substantial damage administrative procedures, and NFIP flood insurance data.
Provides guidance and mentoring on compliance audits; Corrective Action Plans (CAPs) for potential and known NFIP violations; Assisting in administering Community Assistance Program - State Support Services Element (CAPSSSE) grant, including organizing and overseeing monthly meetings with NFIP State Coordinator, and reviewing applicant submission of program deliverables and reporting documents.
