This position is located in Region Six, Mitigation Division. The ideal candidate for this position will have experience utilizing NFIP data and reporting systems, geospatial information systems, and hydraulics and hydrology modeling. The incumbent will also have experience evaluating and interpreting complex development related questions and suggesting remedies for violations and advising communities in disaster recovery.
What will I do in this position if hired? In this position, you will be serving as the primary point of contact and subject matter expert for hydraulics and hydrology related activities involving internal and external partners. Typical assignments include: Evaluating complex technical documentation related to hydraulics and hydrology to assure compliance with NFIP minimum regulations.
Conducting training with local officials on technical aspects of the NFIP minimum regulations and support letter of map change questions. Educating a wide variety of audiences about building codes. Providing technical assistance to communities to implement their post-disaster SI/SD mission including training on administrative procedures and Substantial Damage Estimator (SDE) use.
Monitoring, documenting, and providing technical assistance to communities to support their post-disaster permitting and inspection processes including outreach on improving building practices and stronger building codes. Promoting floodplain management activities in relation to emergency management directives, regulations, policies, laws, standards, and guidance (e.g., National Security Strategy, Presidential Policy Directives, etc.) What else do I need to know?
