Job Summary

The ideal candidate is an experienced emergency management professional with strong supervisory skills and demonstrated expertise leading disaster recovery programs, including Public Assistance, disaster declaration processes, and related recovery operations. They can effectively coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, provide sound technical guidance under high-pressure conditions, and manage staff, resources, budgets, and complex recovery projects.

Key Responsibilities

What will I do in this position if hired? In this position, you will oversee staff who perform emergency management work including managing and coordinating with other entities the recovery efforts.

Typical assignments include: Serving as a customer service point of contact by responding to inquiries from disaster survivors, applicants, and partner organizations, providing accurate information on recovery programs, eligibility requirements, application processes, and available assistance.

Representing the agency at meetings, conferences, working groups, and stakeholder engagements by presenting FEMA recovery program information, explaining policies and requirements, addressing questions, and coordinating with federal, state, local, tribal, territorial, nongovernmental, and private sector partners.

Appling expert knowledge of emergency management laws, regulations, policies, and recovery programs to provide technical guidance, interpret program requirements, review complex assistance applications, and support effective implementation of FEMA recovery operations.

Leading and supervising regional recovery staff by assigning work, setting priorities, monitoring progress, evaluating performance, resolving operational issues, and guiding the team in delivering effective disaster recovery programs and services.

Assigning, monitoring, and evaluating work by establishing priorities, distributing tasks based on employee skills and mission needs, tracking progress against deadlines, reviewing completed work for quality and compliance, and providing feedback to improve performance and program outcomes. What else do I need to know? At FEMA, our mission is to help people before, during and after disasters, and every employee at FEMA has a role in emergency management.

Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description.

Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
