Key Responsibilities

What will I do in this position if hired? In this position, you will serve as an Emergency Management Specialist (Risk Analyst). Typical assignments include: Serve as a technical expert in NFIP geospatial data management, assessing geospatial datasets holistically to evaluate data quality, structure, relationships, gaps, dependencies, and modernization opportunities.

Organize and implement geospatial database management processes, including data maintenance, data cleanup, standards development, guidance issuance, and data quality improvement across NFIP insurance and mapping datasets. Apply a geospatial data architecture perspective to connect, govern, and operationalize NFIP geospatial datasets across systems, programs, workflows, and modernization initiatives.

Lead cross-functional working groups, user groups, and project teams involving program, mapping, insurance, data, and IT stakeholders to achieve agreed-upon outcomes within cost, schedule, and scope. Coordinate and communicate project direction, status, risks, issues, and recommendations with supervisors, team leadership, technical teams, and government stakeholders, including representing FEMA in modernization-related working groups. What else do I need to know?

All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description.

Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
