The Smithsonian Institution is the world's largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo. This position is located in the Office of Emergency Management.
This position serves as the Disaster Preparedness Specialist responsible for overall disaster planning and emergency management functions for the Smithsonian Institution and its management. In this position, you will: Provide leadership, strategic policy and direction, advocacy, coordination, integration and analysis of the Smithsonian-wide emergency management and disaster recovery plans.
Develop and implement Smithsonian-wide policies and guidelines for emergency management planning and business continuity to effectively provide for organized decisions and actions to minimize losses and ensure essential functions are sustained. Serve as the Smithsonian expert on advanced principles and practices and possesses expert knowledge of planning, developing and implementing policies and guidelines for emergency management and business continuity plans.
Write reports, evaluations and operating procedures (circulated at high management levels) that address complex technical and procedural issues. Manage staff specifically assigned to emergency preparedness. Perform studies and analyses to identify problems, solutions and trends related to emergency management and continuity of operations.
