The Incumbent serves within Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service (PM&RS) at the Salisbury VA Medical Center in Salisbury, NC, as a Staff Kinesiotherapist. The incumbent who works at this level provides assessment and treatment intervention on an independent basis across the continuum of care and services provided by PM&RS.
Duties of Gerofit Coordinator - Kinesiotherapist position includes but are not limited to: The incumbent works autonomously as a staff kinesiotherapist to complete clinical duties as assigned including developing and implementing physically therapeutic treatment; using judgment to modify treatment based on changing medical conditions or due to complexity of disabilities; working effectively with treatment team and other staff in coordinating patient's total care; and clinically supervising therapy assistants, aides and volunteers as assigned.
Assists in orientation of new students, staff KT's, Veterans to each clinical area/ session. These duties require monitoring and checking the completion of various competencies related to equipment, procedure and protocol for general PM&RS knowledge as well as clinic specific needs. Initiates and maintains positive communication with each veteran referred to our clinics prior to, during, and after discharge.
Assists in arranging additional learning experiences within the facility to provide the staff with greater understanding of comprehensive care for our patients in Gerofit. Assists in continual refinement of program with the goal of establishing and maintaining a premiere Gerofit experience based on evidence based best practice and novel approaches.
Designs, conducts and evaluates the Gerofit Program experiences and actively seeks additional enrollment opportunities to enhance the program. Represents PM&RS at various clinical and educational activities at the discretion of the PM&RS section clinical leadership team. Demonstrates the teaching skills required to provide education to patients, family members, caregivers, employees, students, and coworkers.
Communicates effectively with other internal and external health care providers. Completes all required written reports and clinical documentation in a clear and concise manner and within expected time frames. The incumbent continually seeks to improve knowledge and skill by review of current literature, participation in in-service training, and attendance at continuing education programs especially in their area of expertise.
Continuing education and training will be focused on maintaining and improving competency in all general clinical functions but will also include coursework directed toward the development and improvement of clinical instruction, data collections and reporting techniques, and utilization and reporting of outcome measures.
Conducts record keeping related to patient care documentation and quality improvement (QI) data collection as specified by the PM&RS section clinical leadership team and the GRECC. Responsible for collection and reporting of QI data as requested by the PM&RS section clinical leadership team.
