The primary purpose of this position is to provide developmental experience designed to broaden the skills and/or enhance the leadership perspective of an identified high potential candidate; it is not a continuing position and assignment duration is limited to 36 months.

Key Responsibilities

DUTY 1 Performs career broadening assignments, to apply Air Force military, and/or operations expertise, develops, interprets, and implements policies and procedures to provide planning, programming, and budget guidance to facilitate the identification and determination of alternative ways to achieve the best mix of forces, equipment, and support attainable, within fiscal constraints, for major Air Force missions and operational plans.

Applies expert analysis to inform senior Air Force leaders on resourcing decisions that drive activities in requirements, science and technology, and acquisition to develop the future force.

DUTY 2 Develops new methods for testing and evaluating the effectiveness and integration of Air Force strategies, functional and operational concepts, capability development activities, as well as planning, programming, and budget actions/processes in support of major Air Force missions and operational plans.

Analyzes the effect of high-level, strategic and operational decisions (e.g., Secretary of Defense and the Joint Chiefs of Staff), on the impact to future operational and functional concepts, capability development strategies and requirements, acquisitions, and the overall Planning, Programming, Budgeting, and Execution System (PPBES) processes.

DUTY 3 Prepares and presents high-level briefings of conclusions, many being highly subjective and not readily susceptible to verification until actual operational situations are encountered. Prepares reports, responses to queries, justifications, and background papers on the technical aspects of areas of expertise and assignment. Represents the organization on working groups, steering groups, or other meetings, conferences, seminars, etc.

DUTY 4 In a career broadening capacity, represents organization with a variety of installation and functional area organizations. Establishes, develops, and maintains effective working relationships with Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) staff, COCOMS, MAJCOMS, Joint Staff, Air Staff and other USG interagency officials.

Meets with key customer and coordinating officials to assess customer satisfaction, explain organization policy and procedures, and resolve problems that arise.

Requirements & Education

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Eligible applicants: Air Force Employee (Current Permanent Competitive Service Career/Career-Conditional Employee and Current Permanent AF DCIPS Employees with Reinstatement Rights to the Competitive Service) Area of Consideration is limited to current permanent internal Air Force employees with qualifying Operations experience; all other candidates will be outside the area of consideration.

This assignment is temporary and limited in duration to 36 months. This vacancy announcement is for one formal career broadening opportunity in the Operations Career Field. The organizational location of this position is Headquarters Air Force, Air Force Warfighting Integration Capability, Washington, D.C.
