This position is located within the Environmental Management Services Division of the Miami VA Medical Center, and works under the direct supervision of the Laundry Supervisor or designee. The purpose of this position is to provide on-site laundry services for items such as inpatient personal laundry, inpatient and outpatient units, employee VA-issued clothing, cubicle curtains specialty items.
Duties include, but may not be limited to the following: Prepares and loads carts of clean linen for delivery to wards, clinics, and other areas; and loads carts according to established linen quotas. Handles telephone requests for additional linen and maintains records of all such requests. Performs all duties in accordance with station policies, procedures, regulations, and standards applicable to the laundry section.
Operates the flatwork spreader/feeder, ironer, folder, and stacker/conveyor; and operates industrial dryers, a small piece folder, and garment tunnel finisher. Unloads industrial washers and operates lift stations, index switches, and rail sling systems. Sorts soiled linen by classification and degree of soil and follows all established procedures.
Performs routine care and maintenance of machines and equipment (i.e., tightening nuts and bolts and/or greasing/oiling fittings and wheels); and inspects linens for damage, stained items, etc. Maintains production counts and inventory records of all supplies. Follows established safety and infection control procedures; and keeps the assigned work area clean and free of debris. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Preferred Experience: Institutional laundry experience, knowledge of infection-control, linen management and inventory skills, ability to follow detailed procedures, and able to work under pressure and demanding conditions Work Schedule: Full-Time, 7:00am-3:30pm, Rotating shifts, weekends may be required.

Employee uses provided safety garments during the performance of all assigned duties. Work Environment: Laundries are extremely noisy and usually hot and humid. Workers are exposed to noise, vibrations, and atmospheric conditions associated with a textile care setting. Requires continuous walking on concrete floors, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, and lifting.
In the possibility of exposure to laundry from patients with contagious diseases, workers wear protective masks, gloves, and gowns.
This position does not have an education qualification requirement.
