New York Harbor (NYH) Veteran's Administration Medical Center (VAMC) is seeking a Laundry Worker for their St. Albans facility.
Duties include but are not limited to the following: Properly operates assigned equipment; Uses electronic computer systems and databases; Uses personal protective equipment appropriately; Uses laundry baskets and linen carts when handling and stacking linen; Implements safety precautions; Follows proper linen isolation techniques; Follows oral and written instructions; Keeps production records; Prepares linen for washing unit by folding, stacking and counting; Assembles surgical linen sets; Uses equipment to repair holes in linen; Utilizes chemicals as directed; and Determines if linen is able to be salvaged.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 5am-1:30pm; may include rotational tours and weekends Position Description Title/PD#: Laundry Worker/PD03874A Physical Requirements: The work of the position may require strenuous activity and requires the incumbent to walk, stand, stretch, and bend with constant movement of arms and hands. Light to medium lifting is required when pushing baskets and lifting linen such as stacks of sheets.
Work is done indoors and the incumbent is subject to extreme temperatures and hazardous work on high powered moving machines. The incumbent will be exposed to contaminated areas. The use of a cap, gloves, mask, and gown is necessary while performing duties in certain areas. Exposure to noxious odors exists.
