Job Summary

You will serve as a Maintenance Mechanic with National Park Service, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, located in Munising Michigan. Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work for a minimum of 6 months, and you may be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year based on funding.

Key Responsibilities

Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: Makes repairs to buildings and quarters. Constructs, installs, repairs, and replaces items such as doors, shelves, supply racks, hardware, frame structures, windows, trim and cabinets.

Replaces defective siding, steps, windowsills, and thresholds; replaces glass panes and damaged portions of concrete or wooden walks and/or steps.Applies the best basic health, sanitary, and mechanical principles, and practices to ensure proper operation and maintenance of microbiological and physical chemical processes for efficient treatment of potable water distribution systems.

Operates hypo chlorinators, solution tanks, pressure tanks, valves, mixed media filters, and reciprocating pumps associated with surface water and well water operations. Performs work involving trades such as: masonry, electrical, wastewater and water treatment plant operation, engineering equipment operation, and other lower graded duties.

The incumbent is responsible for the maintenance, repair and construction of facilities including historic structures and resources, and must have a knowledge of building trades, practices/standards, and building codes. Operates heavy equipment such as dump trucks, front end loaders, bulldozers, and skid loaders with limited supervision to complete operations.

There is no substitution of education for experience for Federal Wage System (FWS) positions.
