Job Summary

The incumbent is responsible for general maintenance and repair requirements as established by the Chief, Environmental Management Service . Incumbent will operate a motor vehicle, forklift, and utility vehicle.

Key Responsibilities

This is a key position within Environmental Management Service operational framework; requiring a high degree of initiative, accuracy, and the ability to work independently. Carpentry Duties The Incumbent executes a full range of maintenance activities related to furniture, shelving, partitions, bookcases, interior design artwork, equipment, and material relocation at the Medical Center and at each Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC).

Incumbent will assemble/disassemble and repair desks, chairs, and bookcases, using screws, nails, glue, fasteners, hammers, mallets, screwdrivers, wrenches, and power drill drivers.

Incumbent will assemble and install shelving, cabinets, mirrors, wall art, bulletin boards, clocks, signage, window treatment (draperies/shades/blinds), paper towel dispensers, soap dispensers, hand sanitizer dispensers, medical equipment holders, and other general or decorative item into sheetrock, plaster, metal or brick surfaces using screws, anchors, nails, fosters, levels, hammers, mallets, screwdrivers, and power tools such as drill drivers, hammer drills, compact drills, and power saws.

Painter Duties The Incumbent will prepare the surface of furniture to coat with stain, varnish, or paint by brushing, rolling, or spraying. Incumbent will prepare furniture for coating by using a wire brush, hand sander, or power sander. Incumbent will prepare the coating material by stirring and mixing according to specific directions.

Vehicle Operations The incumbent will operate a van, sedan and truck (box, cargo, & flatbed) 20ft size truck weighting up to 13,000lbs, to load and unload on Government installations and on public roads in a full range of traffic conditions. Incumbent will transport furniture, interior design items, and tools, from the Medical Center to CBOC's and from CBOC's to the Medical Center for disposition.

Forklift/Utility Vehicle Operations The incumbent will operate a forklift and utility vehicle on Government installations. Incumbent will move, stack/unstack pallets in and about warehouse, storage areas, loading docks, and on and off vehicles with a forklift. Incumbent will move equipment and furniture in and about warehouses, storage areas, and loading docks with a utility vehicle.

General Maintenance Operations Incumbent provides services including delivery and removal of existing furniture, equipment, and related materials from a location, transporting the items to a new location to either install or place. Incumbent performs regularly scheduled preventive maintenance and repairs on a variety of materials handling equipment, housekeeping carts, laundry carts, and floor machines.

Work will include lubing, repairing/replacing casters, repairing/replacing shelving. Tools used will consist of hand and power tools. Work Schedule: Monday to Friday 7:00am to 3:30pm Position Description Title/PD#: Maintenance Worker/PD00679A Physical Requirements: Incumbent must move and control heavy furniture and equipment. Incumbent works from ladders frequently. He/she often works in areas that are cramped, dirty and in hard-to-reach locations.

The work may involve prolonged crouching and standing and frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in exhausting and uncomfortable positions. The incumbent frequently lifts or carries tools, equipment, ladders, parts, and supplies up to 50 pounds. Occasionally, the incumbent will be required to lift and carry items over 50 pounds. Occasionally, pushes loads weighing up to 500 pounds.
