Job Summary

This position is located at the Oklahoma City VA Health Care System, Facilities Management Service. This position is a Maintenance Worker assigned at the Engineering Service. Incumbent may be assigned to any of the duties as described below in support of general maintenance duties for the medical center. Duties include but are not limited to the following: Assists journeymen with installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair tasks.

Key Responsibilities

Major duties of this position include but are not limited to, Repairs plumbing systems. Installing, modifying, and repairing new and existing utility, supply, and disposal systems. Repairs equipment such as sewage, water, oil, and gas distribution systems and water closets, tubs, fire sprinkler systems, and showers. Responsible for independently diagnosing, planning and completing projects or work orders involving routine repairs.

Troubleshoots equipment malfunctions and failures and determines the extent of repairs and parts needed, estimated materials required, selects best work methods, techniques and trade practices and accomplishes the repair or overhaul. Responsible for selecting and safely using proper tools, devices, manuals, references and efficient procedures. Performs walk through inspections of buildings and initiates electronic work orders for deficiencies found.

Responsible for measuring, cutting and constructing by using standard building materials. Constructs, installs, repairs, and modifies millwork, framing, benches, partitions, tables, and furniture with precision, ensuring exact fit, structural integrity, and adherence to close tolerances. Utilize blueprint interpretation, shop math, and standard formulas to meet technical specifications and solve manufacturing challenges.

Responsible for reading and applying building plans, blueprints, and sketches to design and execute precise system layouts, ensuring optimal performance; operated specialized tools including plumb bobs, mercury gauges, dividers, closet augers, hydrostatic pumps, and lead pots. Responsible for measuring, cutting, constructing, installing, repairing and modifying routine mill work, framing, benches, partitions, tables, furniture, etc., from blueprints or instructions.

Skilled in the use of all common electrical hand and power tools and testing equipment as required. Operates and use a wide variety of specialty woodworking machines, tools, and use a variety of tools by setting-up, adjusting, and maintaining tools to meet required specifications. Responsible for selecting and safely using proper tools, devices, manuals, references and efficient procedures.

Troubleshoot circuits, controls and systems to locate, repair and replace defective components. Repairs/upgrades and define required materials (bill of materials), tools and equipment requirements. Plans measure and lay out carpentry materials using broad knowledge of wood materials and substitutes, with general and precision woodworking techniques.
