The purpose of this position is to operate patient transport vehicles, including emergency vehicles, patient transport vans/buses, and other types of transport vehicles that are capable of carrying up to 8 or more passengers to and from VA Medical Center facilities, private healthcare facilities, and other private sector areas such as, patient homes, railway, bus stations and airports. Incumbent drives predetermined and/or scheduled routes or special runs.
Major duties and responsibilities include: Operates gasoline or diesel-powered vehicles with a typical gross weight of 22,000 to 32,000 pounds. Operates other vehicles and performs other tasks as assigned by the Fleet Manager/Operations Supervisor. Loading and unloading patients and medical supplies. Assists patients to their scheduled destinations and remains with patient; if necessary.
Signs for certified mail and patient belongings, and delivers to the appropriate officials. Responsible for ensuring all government, state, and local traffic laws regulations are obeyed. Updates travel logs on GSA vehicles that are used after each trip. Cleans and washes vehicles, checks tire pressure and inflates as necessary, and checks liquid levels such as, oil and gas etc.
Possessing Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement is required for the position.
