TWO PAGE RESUME LIMIT APPLIES FOR THIS POSITION The incumbent of this position is a Painter in the Building Mechanical Maintenance Unit, Engineering Service. On a regular and recurring basis, the incumbent applies coating materials by any of the accepted methods of the trade including those designed to give special effects, such as marbling and graining, by using coating materials that are prepared in special as well as common ways with any of the accepted trade devices.
On a regular and recurring basis, the incumbent applies coating materials by any of the accepted methods of the trade including those designed to give special effects, such as marbling and graining, by using coating materials that are prepared in special as well as common ways with any of the accepted trade devices (i.e., brushes, rollers, spray guns, and graining devices), hangs vinyl cover and wallpaper, paints graphic designs, stripes traffic lines, refinishes floors (wood and concrete), and refinishes furniture, determines the methods, techniques, devices and materials that are best suited to the finish required (i.e., glossy finish, grained effect, or a finish that must met specified thicknesses and levels).
Prepares surfaces by methods, such as smoothing with pumice and rottenstone, filling, shaping and leveling with metal and synthetic resins, and mixing and applying pre-coating agents such as pickling and alkali compounds, prepares coating materials by tinting, toning, matching, blending, and mixing in various additives. Sees that the coating finish meets, match, texture decorative, thickness, and level requirements.
Prepares surfaces to be papered/painted by removing wallpaper, washing, minor patch plastering, caulking, and spackling. Cuts glass/plastic and installs same using proper methods such as glazing compounds. On a regular and recurring basis, the incumbent removes and prepares various surfaces containing lead-based paint. Surface preparation and coating methods/techniques are in accordance with standards set by OSHA 29 CFR 1926.62.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00AM -4:30PM Position Description Title/PD#: Painter/PD06740A Physical Requirements: The incumbent is required to coat surfaces from ladders, scaffolds, and platforms, and where the surfaces to be coated are in cramped and hard-to-reach places. This requires the incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
The incumbent frequently lifts, carries, and sets up materials and equipment that weigh up to 10 pounds. Occasionally, is required to handle materials and equipment that weigh 40 pounds and over.
