Job Summary
This position resides within the Secretariat for Special Operations (SSO), Office of the Assistant Secretary of War for SpecialOperations and Low-Intensity Conflict (OASW(SO/LIC)). Under 10 U.S.C. §§ 138 and 167, the ASW(SO/LIC) is the principal civilian advisor to the Secretary of War for special operations and oversees SOF readiness, resources, equipment, and civilian personnel.
Key Responsibilities
Incumbent typical work assignments may include the following: Conducts evaluations of programs and operational processes involving special operations, using qualitative and quantitative methods to assess effectiveness and recommend improvements. Develops, coordinates, manages, and represents policies and programs related to special operations and Service Secretary-like oversight responsibilities.
Reviews and evaluates strategies, concepts, programs, plans, and budgets and develops recommendations on complex policy and program issues. Provides senior-level advice, briefings, presentations, and decision-support on strategy, planning, programming, budgeting, policy, and national security matters.
Represents the organization in meetings and conferences and coordinates policy positions and responses with DoW components, Congress, other government agencies, and external stakeholders.
