Job Summary

This position serves as a Supervisory Recreation Fee Specialist. The primary purpose of this position is to perform a variety of administrative duties that are associated with the management of fee revenue and donations collected from the public under the authority of Federal laws and regulations such as the Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act (FLREA).

Key Responsibilities

The major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following: Supervises the park-wide recreation fee collection program and ensures proper handling and reporting of funds, including 3rd party vendor contracts. Supervises and trains fee technician staff and campground host volunteers. Operates and troubleshoots fee computers and electronic equipment. Develops, plans, and tracks the Cost of Collection budget.

Implements national and regional fee policies, evaluates operational needs, and recommends improvements that enhance efficiency, customer service, and accountability. Physical Demands: This position may require standing for long periods of time, as well as walking, bending, lifting of moderately heavy items. Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to the high volume of personal contacts and the responsibility of dealing with large amounts of money.

If applicable, extreme physical exertion may be required while performing search and rescue, wildland firefighting, and other emergency response duties. Work Environment: This position typically works at an entrance station, campground office, fee office, remit office, visitor center, and/or visitor contact station.

Work may be frequently performed in small, outdoor structures with open windows which results in exposure to extremes of temperature, rain, snow, wind, and direct sunlight. Park areas may be geographically located in areas of high elevation, rugged terrain, or dense populations. High levels of vehicle noise and emissions may exist during heavy visitation periods. Duties may be performed alone and/or in isolated locations.

Area Information: Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is located in Michigan's Upper Peninsula on the south shore of Lake Superior between the communities of Munising (population 2,500). The winter season may extend from October to May and is often characterized by cold temperatures and seasonal snowfall in excess of 140 inches. The area is rich in outdoor sporting activities including hunting, fishing, hiking, boating, biking, camping, and skiing.
