The Assistant Education Officer shares in the responsibility for the administration and management of the Education Division in one of two Regional Processing Offices nationwide and reports directly to the Education Officer (EO). They support the principles of quality improvement and are committed to assuring timely products of high quality are provided to Veterans, their dependents and survivors.
The Assistant Education Officer responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Co-manages broad, multi-faceted education benefits programs through subordinate supervisors and staff (GS-6 to GS-13) Make decisions regarding eligibility for education programs administered by the Buffalo Education Division Provides technical guidance and ensures proper notification of decisions, including appeal rights Interprets and apply laws, regulations, and instructions; reconciles divergent opinions Reviews of complex cases (example: fraud and conflict of laws) Oversees appeals, evidence development, hearings, and case certifications to the Board of Veterans Appeals Ensures timely, accurate delivery of benefits and high customer satisfaction Analyzes, interprets, and prepares reports for division operations evaluation Ensures compliance with VBA program integrity directives and internal control processes Evaluates program effectiveness and develops solutions to organizational problems Work Schedule: Full time, Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Compressed/Flexible: Not Available Telework: This position is eligible for situational (ad hoc) telework only.
The selectee is required to report to the official duty station each scheduled workday. Telework may be approved only on a case-by-case basis with supervisory approval. Routine or recurring telework is not authorized for this position. Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
