The United States Space Force (USSF) at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Brevard, FL is searching for a Technical Advisor for Servicing Mobility and Logistics to support SYD 80 (NH-0801-04, GS-14/15 Equivalent).
Description: The Space Force Portfolio Acquisition Executive (SFPAE) for Space Access (SFPAE/SA) is pioneering one of the USSF's newest mission areas, Servicing, Mobility & Logistics (SML), and we are looking for a visionary Technical Director to help build the foundation of a future space logistics enterprise.
This role is designed for an engineering leader who wants to make a tangible impact by driving efforts toward an architecture and technical baseline for a logistics-based space domain. You will guide the engineering strategy and lead the technical approach needed to transform innovative SML concepts into concrete, foundational capabilities for National Security Space mission areas.
On a daily basis, you will lead efforts to define the space architecture required for emerging SML capabilities, including on-orbit refueling, orbital transfer vehicles, orbital warehousing, on-orbit servicing, and point-to-point delivery. You will provide technical guidance to multi-disciplinary engineering teams to develop system architectures, create and review test plans, and perform critical technical and risk analyses.
You will assess state-of-the-art technologies, such as In-space Servicing, Assembly, and Manufacturing (ISAM), ensuring that complex engineering problems are solved with robust, technically sound solutions that meet mission requirements. You will be part of a dynamic team of Guardians, collaborating across a diverse range of space stakeholders to bring these novel SML capabilities to reality.
A significant portion of your role involves working closely with commercial industry to guide early technology phases and establish strong government-industry partnerships. You will actively track system development, manage and mitigate technical risks, and monitor production and operations to ensure seamless integration.
By translating complex engineering concepts into actionable strategic decisions, you will serve as a crucial link in extending the Joint Logistics Enterprise into Space. Ideal Candidate: As a Tech Director in one of the USSF's newest and most complex mission areas, the Guardian will need a strong background in space system architecture to lay the groundwork for a future space logistics enterprise.
Additionally, while not designated as a supervisory position, the Tech Director will need strong leadership skills to serve alongside the Director as part of the Servicing, Mobility & Logistics leadership team. The Guardian will also need to be a strong collaborator and will be required to interface with a diverse range of stakeholders across the space community.
Mastery level of understanding vital in-space servicing, assembly, and manufacturing (ISAM) technologies needed for DoW missions, including RPOD. A professional engineering degree at the bachelor's level from an ABET accredited institution is required. An Advanced Academic Degree (Masters or above) in engineering is highly desired. Direct experience in systems engineering or space system integration is highly desired.
Excellent communication skills (oral and written) are required and the ability to establish and maintain rapport is required. Extensive knowledge of Systems Engineering processes, practices, and principles is required in order to effectively manage assigned mission.
