This position is located in FEMA Region 3, National Preparedness Division. The ideal candidate for this position will have strong written and oral communication skills; excellent time-management, organizational and analytical skills; self-starter and self-sufficient innovative work ethic; and knowledge of Preparedness Programs.
What will I do in this position if hired? In this position, you will serve as an Emergency Management Specialist (Preparedness). Typical assignments include: Providing advice and recommendations regarding program planning and funding management issues; interprets broad policy and program directives; and makes recommendations of time-phasing of actions along with any acquisition management actions.
Performing emergency management work including managing, coordinating, and executing Federal emergency all-hazards preparedness activities, identifying and assessing risk, estimating the level of capabilities needed to address those risks, building or sustaining the required levels of capability, developing and implementing plans to deliver those capabilities, validating and monitoring progress, and reviewing and updating efforts to promote continuous improvement.
Providing products to line managers with objectively based information for making decisions on the administrative aspects of agency and divisional operations and the management of administrative processes. Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description.
Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
