Job Summary

This position is located in the FEMA Operations Center Branch (FOC) at the Mount Weather Emergency Operations Center (MWEOC). The ideal candidate works executing mass-notification alerts or warnings to national, state, or local government departments, agencies, installations or facilities. The incumbent has the capability needed to save and sustain lives, minimize suffering, and protect property in a timely and effective manner.

Key Responsibilities

What will I do in this position if hired? This position is located in the FEMA Operations Center Branch (FOC). The FOC is FEMA's primary operations center. It provides a centralized point of management for collecting, processing, disseminating and coordinating information and activities through a network of 24 hour operations centers in support of FEMA's all-hazards mission.

Typical assignments include: Maintaining the Operation Center's continuous state of readiness for implementing and executing procedures responding to natural or man-made disasters, national security events or emergencies, and other all-hazards situations. Monitoring emerging events and incidents and conducting the alerting and notification of appropriate FEMA response teams and interagency partners.

Providing warning information to state and local emergency managers via FEMA warning systems. Operating, testing and exercising a multitude of communications and computer systems that support the FOC's alert and notification mission. Participating regularly in efforts to exercise, validate, and execute emergency management capabilities, procedures and functions. What else do I need to know?

At FEMA, our mission is to help people before, during and after disasters, and every employee at FEMA has a role in emergency management. Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites.

All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description.

Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions. Promotion Potential: Future promotions will be dependent on your ability to perform the duties at a higher level, the continuing need for an employee assigned to the higher level, and administrative approval.

Requirements & Education

No Educational Substitution: There is no educational substitution for this position, and you must meet the qualifications listed in the "requirements" section of this announcement.
