The Southern Arizona VA Health Care System (SAVAHCS) is currently seeking a Supervisor Social Worker to join the Acute Care Team. The selected candidate will oversee staff working with high-risk and complex patients, including those with multiple diagnoses, physical and mental health comorbidities, high healthcare utilization, impairments, disabilities, and various personal, social, and financial challenges, as well as health system issues.
Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Oversees a multidisciplinary Social Work Service team, including nurses, social workers, and assistants, providing clinical and administrative supervision to meet unit goals. Sets clear performance standards through the employee performance management system. Manages recruitment and retention efforts. Resolves issues in coordination with HR, EEO, Employee/Labor Relations, and payroll departments.
Collaborates with a multidisciplinary team, veterans, caregivers, and community stakeholders to assess, educate, advocate for, and address patient care issues. Ensures efficient patient flow and access within the hospital. Conducts biopsychosocial assessments, screenings, advance directives, case management, crisis intervention, safety planning, and discharge planning, following social work standards.
Monitors productivity, workload, documentation, and labor mapping, ensuring compliance with standards. Uses data, research, and metrics to identify trends and barriers, recommending program improvements. Provides education on discharge planning, case management, care coordination, abuse reporting, and social determinants of health. Conducts record reviews and compliance checks.
Leads or co-leads hospital projects and process improvements, including completing Yellow Belt lean training within two years. Develops and maintains clinical practice standards, including guidelines, competencies, manuals, and SOPs. Ensures all staff practice within their scope and complete required clinical reviews promptly. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 07:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience. Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
