Job Summary

This position is located in Region Six, Response Division. The ideal candidate for this position will have experience supervising and overseeing staff that perform work involved in managing, and coordinating with other entities in the emergency response to intentional and/or unintentional crises, disasters, other humanitarian emergencies, hazards, or natural and man-made/technological incidents.

Key Responsibilities

What will I do in this position if hired? In this position, you will be directing Response Division operations: assisting in managing and coordinating regional response programs and functional areas such as operations, logistics, planning, disaster emergency communications, GIS, hurricane programs, IMAT, and the 24x7 Regional Watch.

Typical assignments include: Supervising division leadership staff: Overseeing branch chiefs, subordinate supervisors, senior specialists, and management staff by assigning work, setting priorities, evaluating performance, addressing personnel matters, and identifying training needs.

Providing senior technical and policy guidance: Advising the Response Division Director and regional leadership on FEMA response policies, directives, program issues, operational priorities, and improvements to program delivery. Coordinating disaster response activities: working with Federal, State, local, tribal, territorial, nongovernmental, and private-sector partners to support preparedness, response operations, incident support, and emergency management coordination.

Managing resources and performance: Developing goals, monitoring progress, coordinating metrics, managing staffing and budget needs, and preparing reports, briefings, and responses to leadership inquiries. At FEMA, our mission is to help people before, during and after disasters, and every employee at FEMA has a role in emergency management.

Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description.

Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.

Requirements & Education

No Educational Substitution: There is no educational substitution for this position, and you must meet the qualifications listed in the "requirements" section of this announcement.
