Grand Isle County produced about $265 million of goods and services in 2024, which is 0.6% of the combined output of the 14 counties of Vermont that BEA reports (about 1.2% of the state's population lives here), and ranks it 13th of 14 on that measure. Per resident that is $35,565, 50% below the state average; the average for all counties of the state taken together is $71,512. In current dollars output grew 7.9% from 2023 to 2024, before adjusting for inflation.
BLS counts 1,383 jobs located in Grand Isle County on average in 2024, spread over 299 employer sites (about 5 jobs per site). That is 0.19 jobs for every resident, below the 0.41 of the typical county in Vermont, which tells you whether the county is a place people mostly commute to for work or a place they commute from. The average annual pay per job was $50,181, 22% below the average of all counties in the state ($50,181 against $64,611). Average pay is total wages divided by jobs, so it is pulled up by high earners and counts part-time jobs as whole jobs; it is not the pay of a typical worker. The number of jobs rose 10.4% from 2023 to 2024.
The three largest private industries are accommodation and food services (33.1% of private jobs, $26,197 a year on average), retail trade (20.1% of private jobs, $30,923 a year on average), construction (16.9% of private jobs, $54,854 a year on average). Together they hold 70.1% of private-sector jobs. Among industries with at least 3% of jobs, the best paying is finance and insurance at $110,557 a year, followed by construction ($54,854). Several of the biggest employers pay well below the county average: accommodation and food services ($26,197), retail trade ($30,923), manufacturing ($26,789). Jobs there are plentiful but the pay is lower than the headline average suggests.
In 2026M09 the unemployment rate in Grand Isle County was 2.9%, 13% above the average of the state's counties (2.9% against 2.6%).
